What are Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are custom-made to slip on top of an implant or a natural tooth that has been shaved down. If you still have your natural teeth, crowns are used if a tooth is chipped, cracked, or broken. They are also used after root canal procedures since the tooth will need to be restored, plus when you get a dental bridge treatment for missing teeth.

The Dental Crown Procedure

There are multiple types of procedures that use dental crowns, but all of them start with an impression of your current teeth. In the case of a chipped or broken tooth, the tooth will be shaved down into the shape of a post. The crown will be placed on top of the tooth with a permanent adhesive.

If you need a bridge for a missing tooth. Crowns can be placed on the teeth surrounding the open spot. The bridge can then be placed between the teeth capped with crowns.

Similar to broken teeth, when you have a root canal procedure, the tooth will be filled, and the crown will be placed on top.
